Here's how to Force Quit.
In OS 9 or earlier hold down the Command (Apple) key and the Option key and press and release the Escape key (top left of the keyboard on most machines). Now a dialog box should appear asking if you want to Force Quit the application. Clicking OK might work. You should restart your computer as soon as possible after doing this.
In OS X you can use the same key command or you can choose Force Quit from the Apple menu. This brings up a dialog box with a list of running applications. Click on the one you want to quit and then click the Force Quit button. When you've quit the relevant application just close the dialog box with the close button in the top left corner. You do not need to restart the computer after doing this unless you continue to experience problems.
Note: In either case, you will lose any unsaved work in the program you force to quit. |
